Most front-end roles today are really JavaScript framework jobs.

This one isn’t.

This role exists for engineers who believe CSS is real engineering- not decoration.

You’ll take ownership of the UI architecture and styling systems across a sophisticated enterprise software platform used by larger financial/insurance organisations.

The platform has evolved over many years and supports multiple products and customer implementations.

You’ll own the front-end architecture of the platform — ensuring the UI layer remains elegant, scalable and maintainable as the product continues to evolve.

What this role is (and isn’t)
This role is for someone who:
  • Treats CSS as engineering, not decoration
  • Thinks in systems, not one-off components
  • Cares about spacing, typography, alignment and UI quality
  • Understands scalable styling architecture
  • Being comfortable improving legacy systems while modernising them
  • Collaborating with backend / full-stack engineers and customers’ design teams
This role is probably not for someone who:
  • Is primarily focused on JavaScript frameworks
  • Sees CSS as “just styling”
  • Wants to move into a full-stack engineering role
  • Prefers short-lived greenfield projects over long-term product ownership
React or Angular may appear in customer implementations of the white-labelled product - but JavaScript framework work is not the centre of this role.

The Work
You will be the sole front-end specialist responsible for shaping and maintaining the platform’s UI layer.

Practically speaking, this means:

  • Designing and evolving the  CSS architecture across multiple applications
  • Ensuring visual consistency and UI quality across the product suite
  • Building scalable styling approaches that support white-labelling and customer customisation
  • Working closely with backend and full-stack engineers to ensure clean implementation
  • Acting as the bridge between design intent and engineering reality
Example Problems You Might Solve
You might find yourself working on challenges like:
  • Designing a CSS architecture that allows the platform to support multiple branded customer implementations without creating brittle or duplicated stylesheets.
  • Improving legacy styling across several mature applications while gradually introducing cleaner, more scalable patterns.
  • Ensuring visual consistency across the platform while working alongside backend and full-stack engineers to deliver new features.
None of these problems requires rewriting everything from scratch.

They require thoughtful engineering and a pragmatic approach to evolving a long-lived system.

If these kinds of problems interest you, this role will likely feel like a good fit.

About You (Yes, the wish list)
You bring strong front-end craft and architectural thinking, including:
  1. Advanced CSS3 skills (Flexbox, Grid, advanced selectors, animations, transitions)
  2. CSS performance optimisation
  3. Expert HTML5 and semantic markup
  4. Advanced proficiency with SASS and/or LESS
  5. Working knowledge of JavaScript for UI behaviour(not framework-centric)
  6. Strong grasp of responsive design and media queries
  7. Experience resolving cross-browser compatibility issues
Importantly, you understand that enterprise software evolves over time.

You’re comfortable working with legacy systems while steadily improving them - because that’s how real platforms evolve.

The Team
You’ll work alongside an experienced engineering team with deep expertise in C# and full-stack development. The engineers here are widely regarded as some of the strongest in their field.

Your role complements that strength by bringing specialist front-end and UI architecture expertise into the team.

About the Company
A highly successful Insurtech software company, operating for over 21 years, delivering sophisticated enterprise platforms used by financial and insurance organisations.

What makes them unique:
  • Stable, profitable business with an impressive enterprise client base
  • Boutique engineering environment with real ownership and influence
  •  An unusually high average tenure of 12–15 years across the team
We quietly refer to them as the “unofficial employer of choice”- flying slightly under the radar.

Interview Process
Stage 1: Intro call with Ramona (Recruiter) - starting from Tues 10th March
Stage 2: Hiring Manager call/video call - aiming for  Fri 13th March > ongoing

No coding tests.

Just real conversations about how you think, build and collaborate.

If this sounds like you
We’d love to hear from engineers who take pride in the craft of front-end architecture and want to take ownership of a platform’s UI layer.

After applying, we’ll share the full job description and arrange a call shortly after.
